Annapurna - Get Way of Heaven

The Annapurna: 2019, October

The word 'Annapurna' resonates the spirituality as well as the gorgeous snow-capped view with lots of adventure. If you are a Hindu devotee then it means the Goddess of harvests; if you are a traveler looking for thrills in Himalayas, then it means a mountain-range of north-central Nepal that includes 8,091 m Annapurna I, thirteen additional peaks over 7,000 m and 16 more over 6,000 m.

The entire massif and surrounding area are protected within the 7,629 km² Annapurna Conservation Area, the first and largest conservation area in Nepal.

The Annapurna Conservation Area is home to several world-class treks, including the Annapurna Circuit trek and Annapurna Base Camp trek. The Annapurna Sanctuary is a high glacial basin lying 40 km directly north of Pokhara. This oval-shaped plateau sits at an altitude of over 4000 metres, and is surrounded by a ring of mountains, the Annapurna range, most of which are over 7000 metres.

If you love mountains then you can’t miss the chance to visit this place because it has been a abode of picturesque Gurung villages, colorful flora and fauna, captivating sight of snow-capped peaks, adventurous trekking trails, alluring sunrise view-points, sparkling waterfalls and many more gifts from mother nature.

From the valley floor (below 1000 m) to the sumit of Annapurna (8091 m) there is an amazing variety of treasures awaiting for you! Trails along the lower valleys weave through terraced fields, dipping occasionally into shady broadleaf forests. Upstream, you enter glorious rhododhendron forests, the gnarled pinkish limbs festooned with epiphytic ferns and orchids. Keep an eye out at watercourses for a number of small but heavenly birds, including the white-capped river chat and the plumbeous restart.

Although if you don't want to do trekking in higher altitude, still Annapurna appears in front of you in several popular spots in Pokhara like Phewa lake, Sarangkot. It can also be enjoyed from Nagarkot, Dhulikhel & Daman.

Overview of treks in Annapurna Region:

The most two popular treks in this area are,

1) Annapurna Base Camp trek (Trekkers call it as ABC trek)

2) Annapurna Circuit trek

You can go to Annapurna Base Camp trek any time of the year except Monsoon season i.e. June to August. Autumn (September to November) is the best time to do this trek because it offers clear blue sky and moderate temperature.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. It is quite easy and shorter trek than other high altitude treks in Nepal. This trek incorporates diverse terrain, culture, and wildlife together with the hair-raising suspension bridges, the most spectacular close-up view of Annapurna range, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri.

Along with the national flower of Nepal, Rhododendron, Orchids, Machhapuchhre massif and the deepest gorge Kali Gandaki accompany you during the trek.

You will spot at times high cascading waterfalls. And, you will get to learn about people of different ethnicity, especially Gurung people when visiting the Ghandruk museum. Breathing fresh vigorous air while savouring the breakfast views of Annapurna and Machhapuchhare from the traditional Gurung village is the luxury worth experiencing in the lap of Mother Earth.

Depending on which route you take, you may not pass through Ghandruk though. The trail is the same from Chomrung onwards but you can choose to include or not include Ghorepani Poon Hill and Ghandruk.

Poon Hill viewpoint provides trekkers with an incredible fantastic panoramic sunrise view overlooking the entire Annapurna range. The uphill climb has a total distance of 3 km and takes around 1-2 hours to complete.

Other highlights of this trek are the hot springs! Very relaxing and healing for your aching muscles. Also, ABC passes through MBC (Machhapuchhre Base Camp). What a blissful package! Visit two base camps in one trip!

You could go during December if you would like it to be quieter. ABC is possible in winter as well. Dry air and clear sky with the best visibility but, during winter, it will be very cold and will snow. If you plan to trek in December, you need to prepare well with appropriate gears, nerves of steel and a lot of stamina.

Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal is voted as the best long-distance trip in the world. It includes the wide varieties of climatic zones, dramatic range of geography, and most significantly the unique culture and people.

Moreover, it is an appealing journey into a divine world that is approximately 160 to 230 km which leads you up to the pristine Thorong La Pass. This sensational trekking wins the heart of both beginners and experienced ones. The most important thing is that you can walk on both sides of the Massif Annapurna. You will have a wonderful trip that covers different river valleys, subtropical forests, waterfalls, gigantic cliffs, pilgrimage site, natural hot spring and typical villages.

Trek on ancient trek Route that passes through Marshyangdi Valley, Manaslu and Hiunchuli. Explore the beautiful Manang Village and an interesting blend of Gurung, Magar and Thakali people. Visit old Buddhist monastery at Braga or Tilicho Lake as a side trip. Enjoy the real adventure of Annapurna Circuit Trekking crossing the famous Thorong La Pass (5,416m). Trek to Annapurna Circuit combines pilgrimage at Muktinath, the most significant shrine. Witness the world’s deepest gorge (Andha Galchi) at Kali Gandaki River during the trek.
